Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has inaugurated three committees that will oversee the implementation of the school feeding programme and the state of emergency declared in the education sector in the state.

A third committee, the state of emergency council, will supervise the other committees and ensure proper policy implementation.

A statement issued in Sokoto Wednesday by Tambuwal’s spokesman, Malam Imam Imam, quoted the Governor as saying that the committees have important roles to play since the major policy of his administration is the revamping of the education sector.

He said the success or failure of his administration should be gauged by what he will achieve in the sector in the state.

“To say the least, the story of education sector in this state is that of dilapidated school structures, inadequate schools and classrooms, lack of teaching and learning materials, low morale of teachers and educational administrators as well as lukewarm attitude of communities,” the Governor said.

The committees, according to Tambuwal, will develop realistic work-plan and budget based on sound technical managerial expertise, monitor implementation of approved plans with due diligence and efficiency and also develop modalities for rationalising, upgrading and streamlining education sector infrastructure, manpower and community development.

While the Governor heads the state of emergency council, Professor Risqua Arabu Shehu will head the technical committee. Alhaji Mainassara Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education will chair the school feeding committee.

The committees were given six weeks to present interim reports.
